FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 16, 2010
Over the last two days, the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association (CRFA) has met with Calgary mayoral candidates Ric McIver, Joe Connelly and Craig Burrows to discuss their vision for the city’s restaurant industry.
CRFA Chairman Gerard Curran of the James Joyce Irish Pub in Calgary, CRFA President and CEO Garth Whyte and CRFA Vice President Western Canada Mark von Schellwitz emphasized the importance of Calgary’s restaurant industry to the economy and the community – the city has 2,900 restaurants with more than $2.2 billion in sales, according to The NPD Group.
“The restaurant industry is a key part of Calgary’s economic growth and job creation,” says Whyte. “This is the message we are sharing with Calgary’s mayoral candidates, and in turn, we’re inviting them to tell us what they envision for our industry.”
On October 24 and 25, Calgary hosts the 2010 Alberta Foodservice Expo for which CRFA is the title sponsor. Showcasing the province’s $8.4-billion foodservice industry, the Expo offers operators innovative ideas, new strategies and leading-edge products to help grow their business.
