Provinces across Canada want to increase your CPP premiums
Federal, provincial and territorial ministers of finance are meeting in early summer to revisit enhancements to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP). This means higher CPP premiums for you and your employees. Last year, the federal Minister of Finance initially supported modest, fully funded enhancements to the CPP but backed off that position before meeting with his provincial and territorial counterparts. However, strong support for enhancing the CPP by most provinces (except Alberta) has kept it on the agenda. (Two-thirds of the provinces with two-thirds of the population must agree before CPP changes can be made.) Leading up to this meeting, labour unions are actively lobbying to double fully funded CPP benefits. CPP reform is also a top priority of the new Official Opposition party in Ottawa.
Speak out now to prevent more payroll tax increases. Tell Minister Flaherty and your provincial finance minister not to increase CPP premiums, particularly for low-income Canadians.
