Employer advocate appointed to help navigate Nova Scotia WSIS

(May 22/08) Employers in Nova Scotia now have access to a professional advisor on workplace safety and insurance issues through the province’s new Employers’ Stakeholder Program.

Designed to help employers gain better access to workers' compensation and health and safety resources and programs, this program is the result of collaboration between Nova Scotia’s Workplace Safety and Insurance System and a coalition of employer groups, in which CRFA plays a leading role.

In her role as employer advocate, Mary Morris will provide support to businesses of all sizes and will work with CRFA and other business groups on an ongoing basis to ensure that the employer perspective is better represented in all aspects of workers’ comensation issues.  Ms. Morris will report directly to an advisory council consisting of employer groups, with funding from the employer assessment pool.

This new program will be beneficial to all employers in Nova Scotia, and particularly useful for small businesses - like independent restaurants - that have limited resources to investigate and navigate complex workplace safety issues.

For more information on this new program, contact CRFA’s Luc Erjavec at 1-877-755-1938 or luc@crfa.ca.
