(Nov. 3/08) Customers can now access food safety inspection reports for Nova Scotia restaurants and grocery stores online – an open and transparent approach that CRFA believes benefits both customers and restaurateurs.
For customers, the website provides specific information about food safety violations as well as the action required to comply with regulations. The database is searchable by name and location and records will be updated within days of a visit by the province’s food safety inspectors.
For operators, this system provides a more complete explanation of any food safety violations, while avoiding simplistic and potentially misleading tools, such as pass/fail scores, or red, yellow and green colour codes.
This new system has been in development for several years – during that time, CRFA worked closely with government to ensure that the final product would be fair, accountable and science-based.
The inspection reports are available on the Department of Agriculture's website at www.gov.ns.ca/agri/foodsafety/reports/.
