Nova Scotia proposes new regulations for TFWs

(May 19/11) Nova Scotia is considering new regulations on the recruitment of Temporary Foreign Workers (TFWs). The proposed legislation:

prevents employers and/or recruiters from charging fees to help workers find jobs;
requires recruiters to be licensed; and
requires employers to register with the province to recruit TFWs.

CRFA will appear before the Law Amendments Committee of the Legislature to support the provisions calling for licensed recruiters and prohibiting charging workers fees. However, we have expressed concerns with the requirement that employers register whenever they wish to hire a TFW, and the increased cost of this measure.

Temporary Foreign Workers are covered by provincial occupational health and safety regulations and labour standards.
