(Feb. 13/12) On Jan. 31, CRFA met with Saskatchewan’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance Ken Krawetz to discuss CRFA’s 2012 Saskatchewan Pre-Budget Submission. We congratulated Minister Krawetz on his government’s work to make Saskatchewan a more business-friendly environment. We also offered a series of eight recommendations for the 2012 provincial budget.
Our recommendations
CRFA has recommended that Saskatchewan should:
- freeze Saskatchewan’s minimum wage at $9.50 for 2012;
- initiate phasing in tip and training wage differentials when general minimum wage is increased;
- make permanent the Hospitality Sector Pilot Project of the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP);
- commit to reducing barriers and disincentives to work both alone and in conjunction with other levels of government;
- commit to a comprehensive review of the provincial liquor licensing regime, with a focus on reducing red tape and providing equal treatment for all classes of licensees;
- introduce true wholesale pricing of beverage alcohol for all licensees;
- initiate a phasing out of the Liquor Consumption Tax; and
- reaffirm that Saskatchewan rejects GST harmonization.
